This American Christian submerges himself into ISLAMIC culture for 30 days. The question that should perhaps be on everyones mind is ” Is this show depicting reality, or is it depicting culturally.” Watch now above.
erm, here’s a few points of my opinion:
1. The part about dave saying he’s praying to another god, i’d like to have you know its the same god. We don’t know anything about god except his presence, thus when people pray they pray to what they don’t know, the idea of god that we believe in. Technically, we all follow the same god from different views.
2. I think that an islamic society would have been verrry more hospitable to a stranger, we really are. We’d also be very careful not to put someone into a situation where he doesn’t feel comfortable, and wouldn’t be as blunt as depicted here.
3. The islamic religion is very mallaeble, a huge thing people might not know. If a person didn’t know the words or anything, you could just read their english translation from the Qur’an as you immitate what everyone else is doing, as long as you do it with heart.
4. We actually believe that god wants humans to have fun, as long as they don’t break any rules. we’re not ALLOWED to have fun, god WANTS us to have fun. Pandora’s box kinda situation.
5. I think it was very realistic that he went to find other people to help him instead of the imam, who was pushy in a way imo.
6. Islam is not a title, its a way of life. there is not such thing as muslim terrorists because a terrorist does not qualify to be a muslim, y’see? its not like an ethnic background, for example an arab being a terrorist. Furthermore, i agree with Ismail when he sais we need to consider the mentalities of those who blow up themselves and try to reach out to them instead of disregard them as ‘psychos’.
Ahmed,
thank you for your comments.
I notice that they do not really touch very much on the religious aspects of ISLAM. It is more based on the cultural shock of this white western man… What else could you tell us all about ISLAM as a way of life?
